Up and coming island musicians share the stage

Elizabeth Bishop, Vashon-Maurey Island Beachcomber
December 18, 2019

Eight Vashon High School graduates will perform in a special Sharing the Stage show from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at the Chop Suey club in Seattle. Kate Atwell, Julia Hanowell, Iris Sackman, Dimitrius Brown, Quinn McTighe, Madeleine Wolczko, Mallory Breen, and Chick Green have all performed in past years as VHS students, opening for artists such as Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and Tacocat at island venues. Sharing the Stage, which began in 2010 and has produced 14 shows on-island, showcases high school performers and bands, providing mentorship opportunities that culminate with the chance to open for a top-name headlining band. Monday’s event is billed as a “Home for the Holidays” show since almost all of the performers are students in college or alumni. Several other performers in the lineup will hail from various Seattle high schools. Tickets are $10 for this all-ages show. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the music will begin at 7. More information about the show and tickets can be found at sharingthestage.com or chopsuey.com
